The Nourish program was designed by representatives from key agencies in Montgomery County who are working to address the issue of food insecurity for children and families. In partnership with many churches, business and organizations, who help fund the program provides approximately 240 backpacks each weekend for children who are identified as food insecure. Each child receives food and snacks that will help feed them and their family for the days they are out of school.

Nourish partners with Food Finders in order to provide balanced meals for the families. Purdue Extension prepares “Backpack Bites” which is a recipe and helpful wellness tidbits that goes along with the food that is sent home.

Nourish is mobilizing hundreds of volunteers who pack and deliver the backpacks to schools and pre-schools each week. Since the inception of the backpack program in 2014, they have already delivered more than 44,000 backpacks.
