Child Abuse Prevention Council

The Montgomery County Child Abuse Prevention Council is comprised of community members interested in helping prevent abuse and neglect in Montgomery County. Functioning as a committee of the Youth Service Bureau Board, the Council meets the second Monday of every month at 5:00 p.m. at the Youth Service Bureau. Anyone interested is welcome at meetings.

The Council achieves it's mission of helping prevent abuse and neglect in several ways. Our personal safety educator provides annual personal safety classes to our county elementary schools for children Kindergarten through 6th grade. Each year the children receive information about how they can protect themselves and whom they should tell if they believe they are being abused.

Our community educator provides training to groups or organizations, as requested, on signs and symptoms of abuse, mandated reporting and what an individual can do to help. Additionally, the educator is able to consult on the creation of policies and procedures to help keep children safe in your program. The Council also distributes written materials about preventing abuse and neglect to schools, hospital, doctor's offices and any other location requested. These materials are provided free of charge and cover topics from water safety to bullying and safe dating. At least twice annually the Council provides community education events open to the public and free of charge. Topics included safe dating, human trafficking, internet safety and more. â€‹
